Ten years ago, WorkMonger started with a simple yet powerful idea: transform how education professionals find jobs. What began as one leader’s vision and an Excel sheet has grown into a dynamic, tech-enabled organization that blends AI-driven efficiency with a human-centered approach. Along the way, we’ve evolved to meet the changing needs of our job seekers and partner organizations, expanding our services to offer deeper, more tailored support. As we celebrate a decade of impact, we want to take a moment to reflect, share our journey, and most importantly, thank you for being part of it.

Where we started: Matching. Tech-enabled. An executive director with a vision for impact ready to move out on their own 

In 2015, WorkMonger started in Austin with a clear vision for impact, a strong network deeply grounded in educational equity and an astonishingly large Excel sheet. Our founder, John Troy, felt strongly that how education professionals found jobs needed to change: it needed to be faster, it needed to be better and it needed to be more equitable. As an Executive Director at Ed Pioneers, he saw the importance of matching organizations in need with well-trained and skilled professionals ready to dive into their next challenge. 

Since the beginning, we’ve been focused on aligning our job seeker values and skills with organizations. It’s not enough that this role “makes sense,” the org needs to be the very best place for job seekers to bring their skills and passions. Our matching process has evolved now with an AI-driven touch and a human eye, ensuring that every connection is both data-smart and deeply personal.

Turning point: 2018. Diversifying our search services. Building out tiers of service 

In 2018, we had four similar client conversations all in a row. Organizations were pleased with our matching services, but they wanted and needed more support with recruitment, beyond our matching pool, and they were seeking support with selection. We already knew their organizations, their teams, these roles…and we had an opportunity to see roles through. And we know when four clients, sourcing for different roles in different cities at different salary points all share the same need? We must respond. So, tiers of service and executive search came to be. That year would go on to be WorkTogether’s most impactful and most successful year so far. 

And, with this expanded role supporting our clients, we learned so much from you! What services were of great value, what services were totally superfluous, what worked on paper and what worked in practice. We are particularly grateful for the ongoing feedback cycles and reflections we engaged in during this time with our long-term clients. 

Where we are now: 2024-2025. New new, rebrand. Expanded commitment to job seekers and career coaching. 

Now in 2025, we’ve served over 120 organizations in the education space. We’ve done this through recruitment and matching (as our origin story intended!), but we’ve also done this through interviewing, selection process design and execution, fractional talent leadership and more. Our support has become more diversified than we could have imagined, and that is exactly what we want.
