As the daughter of a veteran first grade teacher and city social worker, Sarah grew up knowing she was able to do anything she wanted when she grew up…as long as it was in service of others. This guidance shaped her trajectory: she studied social justice in college and joined Teach for America in 2010. After spending two years on Pine Ridge Reservation teaching students of the Oglala Lakota Sioux tribe, Sarah realized that students and families were giving their all, every day, but the adults responsible for teaching and leading needed more support.
This led her to join TFA’s staff in Dallas-Fort Worth as an instructional coach and over time, a leader of a team of instructional coaches. During this time, she supported large districts like Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD, large charter networks like KIPP and Uplift Education, as well as single site charters and magnet programs. This exposure to diverse school settings has been invaluable to Sarah as she works across the education space in her work now.
Sarah’s “Why”
After about a decade on the instructional side of schools, Sarah transitioned to support talent full time and joined WorkTogether in 2018. She always told her teachers, school leaders and school support partners that anything they wanted to do for work, they could do in education. It’s been very gratifying to be in a role that proves that right!
Sarah believes educational equity is the civil rights fight of our time, and keeping people in the fight is the most fulfilling and rewarding work. The more passionate, skilled, and dedicated people we can recruit, retain and train in education, the more impact and change we can make. Her work at WorkTogether is impact-driven, responsive to the needs of those doing the work every day, and very fulfilling. (And, she gets to work with the very best team!)
