John Troy is the Founder & CEO of WorkTogether, which he launched in 2015. John began his career as an investment banking analyst at Citigroup in New York. Out of a desire to utilize his business skills to make a social impact, John switched to the non-profit sector where he ran a community service non-profit organization named EPIC Adventures, served as the Director of Community Service and Finance at The Journey Christian Church in Manhattan, and helped start Church Leader Insights, an organization dedicated to equipping pastors with the leadership and organizational skills necessary to effectively run their churches. John later served as Executive Director of the Southern Region for Education Pioneers, a non-profit organization focused on bringing top talent into the education sector.
John has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Social Entrepreneurship from Duke University. John lives with his wife and 3 young children in Austin, Texas, where they are members of Austin Ridge Bible Church and enjoy hiking, kayaking, live music, hanging out at the lake, and great Texas brisket.
John’s “Why”
WorkTogether is the place where many of John’s core beliefs come together towards a common purpose. John believes deeply that every child deserves access to an excellent education that unlocks their innate potential and equips them for a successful life of their own choosing. Unfortunately, in our society today there is inequitable access to that education, and individuals, families, communities, and our society as a whole deal with the ramifications of that inequity every day.
Similarly, John also believes that every person is uniquely gifted and able to contribute value to our society. Organizations that build and sustain diverse teams and inclusive cultures are best positioned to harness the power of their people to drive meaningful change forward.
Since college, in one way or another, John has been helping to connect talented people with roles where they can make an impact alongside others for a cause they care about. John has seen firsthand how building teams with the right talent in the right roles at impact-driven organizations can be transformational, for the organization, its mission, and the people involved.
