Rebuilding the C-suite with a new CEO
The Challenge
FILL FOUR C-LEVEL OPENINGS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
After back-to-back transitions and an Executive Leadership Team restructure, Breakthrough’s new CEO was left with four brand-new chief openings in the middle of the school year. In addition to content expertise, a top priority was finding leaders who agreed that this time of transition was an opportunity to make change and lead the district into a new era.
The Outcomes
“WorkTogether always stays two steps ahead, which is greatly appreciated! She made sure we had a fair, equitable process. Everyone on our team (including board members) were impressed by the speed and quality of the candidates.”
– Juliet Kaye, Chief of Staff
New Job Descriptions for Each Role
Due to the restructuring, each position was rescoped. This meant we had to work on new job descriptions and create each role’s selection process from scratch. We worked closely with exiting senior leaders to learn the goals for the new positions and craft a unique candidate profile and new selection process.
Candidates with Complementary Skills
Simultaneous senior hires meant that decisions couldn’t be made in a vacuum. We weren’t only looking at which candidates were best for the job but also who was best to join at that time. Part of our selection process included evaluating the ability to join during times of immense transition and participate in joint onboarding. We ended up with a mix of district, nonprofit and internal candidates with complementary skill sets and experiences.
