How Fractional Recruitment Helped KIPP Texas Public Schools Scale Talent Acquisition During Peak Hiring Season

The Challenge

Leading into the peak spring hiring season, the KIPP Texas Public Schools recruitment team had a problem. Three recruiters had recently transitioned off the team, and two additional team members were out on leave, leaving the department stretched to the breaking point during its busiest period. This created an urgent challenge: KIPP needed to fill critical teaching and leadership roles across 45 schools in four major cities but no longer had the internal capacity to manage the thousands of applications that would soon come in.

Because the spring hiring cycle is extremely competitive in education, especially for bilingual, SPED, and STEAM teachers in Texas, KIPP needed immediate and specialized support. They required someone who could quickly learn their systems, understand their needs, and step in right away with the ability to scale as demand grew.

The Solution

WorkTogether Talent Consulting partnered with KIPP by providing up to 25 hours per week of dedicated recruitment support for four months during their busiest period. Rather than functioning as an outsourced service, we operated as an extension of their team and offered targeted capacity exactly how, where, and when they needed it.

The Results

As education recruitment experts, we were able to quickly adapt to KIPP’s processes. Our team took ownership of time-sensitive candidate sourcing, outreach, and early-stage screenings, which allowed KIPP’s internal staff to stay focused on interviews and final hiring decisions for each campus.

We reviewed and processed more than 857 applications, completed 479 video interview screenings, conducted 82 phone interviews, and maintained a pipeline of 249 qualified candidates who were actively moving through the process. Our outreach efforts achieved a 23.18% response rate, which is significantly higher than the industry standard of 10% – 15%.

Beyond the numbers, we also left KIPP with lasting tools and systems, including reusable communication templates, organized databases of career fairs and university contacts, and improved sourcing processes designed to support their future hiring cycles.

All in all, KIPP received the support they needed immediately, with none of the delays that would have resulted from taking the time to hire full-time for their team during their busy hiring season. What’s even better? They spent less than if they had hired replacement employees, too!
