And so it began! That was the message I shared on Facebook exactly 10 years ago today, March 11, 2015. Happy 10-Year Anniversary!
I remember feeling both excited and nervous that day. I had always wanted to start a business. Well, after my brief dream of being a professional tree climber (still open to it!). By junior high, I was set on building something of my own. Growing up as the son of a small business owner and a kindergarten teacher, I saw firsthand how meaningful work impacts lives and communities. That belief shaped my path, and over time, my focus became clearer.
By 2014, I knew I wanted to create a talent-matching service that connected mission-driven organizations with the right people to move their work forward. I spent nights and weekends refining the idea, but daily life kept pulling me away. Eventually, I realized that if I wanted this to succeed, I had to go all in. As I reflected, I saw that this wasn’t just about starting a business. It was about creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and helping people find work that aligned with their purpose.
I have always been passionate about connecting people to meaningful opportunities. In college, I started ASSIST, a student organization where teams planned service projects to support their communities while building leadership skills. In New York, I led service-focused Bible study groups that paired learning with community action. At Education Pioneers, I helped place talented leaders in education fellowships. And then came WorkMonger, now WorkTogether. Looking back, everything I have done has been about the same thing: connecting people with purpose.
I think back to kids like Jose, a 12-year-old I met while volunteering at an afterschool program in New York. When I asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he said a taxi driver. Not because he loved it, but because in his world, that was the biggest dream he thought was possible. That moment stuck with me. It reinforced that education is about more than academics. It expands opportunities, breaks cycles, and unlocks potential. That’s why WorkTogether exists: to connect talented individuals with the mission-driven organizations that need them most.
What started as WorkMonger has grown into WorkTogether Talent Consulting, a full-service talent firm. What began as a simple Excel model is now a one-stop talent services firm offering executive search, consulting, a job board, interim talent support, board recruitment, outplacement, and career coaching. So many people have been part of this journey, and I want to say thank you to each and every one of you. Your contributions were noticed, and they truly mattered.
