Growing up, I never planned to be in education. Somehow, by the end of my senior year of college, everything that I had been doing, whether that be through volunteering or professional work, were related to education in some ways. I was a camp counselor and mentor, I taught at a language school and a community center. These experiences gave me the opportunity to be a Teach For America Corps Member in Houston, and the rest was history. Through being a teacher, I discovered my love for working with students. And when you love something, you fight to make it better. This is what keeps me in education, to be able to contribute to a cause I care deeply about.
I have always been intrigued by and interested in learning about other people. After my commitment with Teach For America, I was looking for ways to make an impact outside of the classroom and luckily, had the opportunity to work for a few different student travel companies around the world. This helped me realize that making connections with others brings me joy. After returning to the US, working in talent seemed to be a natural progression. All of these factors combine into a job where I get to do everything I love (and make new friends along the way!)
Vinh’s “Why”
During my tenure here at WorkTogether, I have learned to embrace a growth mindset. There is always so much to learn about the types of roles we work on, and the clients we get to support. It is incredible to be able to work in a landscape where everyone cares deeply about the work they are doing. I have also learned that a job search, both from the employers and the job seekers’ side, can be a challenging experience. I am proud of the work we do here at WorkTogether to make the experience of everyone involved more enjoyable.
Connecting with our clients and job seekers and getting to see them for who they are, their passion, their challenges, their growth, their accomplishments are why I do what I do.
