A native Texan and first-generation American, Alina has been with WorkTogether since 2019. Her commitment to education started during her undergraduate studies in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. She presented papers on incarcerated education and was an instructor with the Reading World Literature Program, co-teaching a class at the Travis County Correctional Complex.
Alina graduated with a desire to return to Houston and serve education by making sure the best people are in the right position to make the biggest impact. She began her career on the talent team at YES Prep Public Schools, supporting non-instructional hiring for the district.
Since joining WorkTogether, Alina has worked with dozens of nonprofits and school districts across the country. In 2021, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a Masters in Human Resource Management.
Alina’s “Why”
Alina considered being a teacher for about three minutes during a very compelling presentation by Teach For America in one of her undergraduate classes. However, after reflection, she recognized that while she has all the passion, she possesses none of the skills needed to manage a classroom. Instead, she realized the best way for her to serve missions is by making sure the people who do have the right skills get in the right seats.
Alina’s “why” for talent is simple: she loves her work and believes everyone else should love theirs. From national nonprofits to single-site charter schools, she always works to support the three-way match between the right candidate, the right job, and the right team. When designing work for partners, Alina is particularly passionate about efficient systems, equitable hiring processes, and providing a two-way interview process for clients and candidates.
